Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Arthritis

Jimmy is 18 to 20 year old Throughbread. I have ridden him a few times but surgery and injury have restricted my riding so he has not been ridden for a few years. He thinks he is a kid still. He was on the track and it was my understanding that he bowed a tendon he was saved. He doesn't have any real problems.

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-14-00637Whiskey Joe (male)

Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Gelded

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. I'd like to find a good home for an old friend of mine, Whiskey Joe, a 21-year-old Appaloosa/quarterhorse gelding that's been a part of my life since he was about 4 years old. Whiskey is a gentle giant, 16-plus hands weighing about 1,500 pounds. He's calm, quiet and a perfect gentleman. He has navicular in his front hooves, predominately in the left-front. Consequently, I don't ride him. He has front shoes to keep his hooves off the ground and keep him more comfortable. The shoes are changed every eight weeks. In the best of circumstances, Whiskey would find a home where he'd be among other horses. We live on a 2.5-acre minifarm that was once ... (Read More)a dairy farm dating back to 1900. However, I'm getting older (retired, mid-60s) and don't know how much longer I can maintain the place. I'd like to get Whiskey settled into a new environment before too long. I'd be willing to cover some costs by donating to your organization and perhaps provide a monthly stipend for a certain amount of time. (Less)

Animal ID: 19904360Carbon Diamond N The R (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Vaccinations Current

This is a fantastic mare. She bonds really hard w her people, comes at a gallop when you call and is always first In line for her halter. As a 6 year old, jewel did the Chief Joseph trail with an 80 year old woman on her, was professionally trained as a young horse and then has just sat the last 6 years that I have known her and was basically a pet w an occasional ride around the field til I picked her back up in February 2014. She was originally purchased by just a pic by a friend for their beginner daughter from Oregon from her original owner and breeder. Having not had been ridden for a few years, we decided she was not suitable for ... (Read More)beginner child and adopted her out at that time. She is exceptionally well bred and very nicely gaited. She has a lovely 4 beat gait and it is very smooth. She also lopes under saddle and is learning to work in an arena. She rides out alone fine, is not herd bound to the other horses, but can be a snarky mare in the pasture if there is a horse she doesn't like. If she likes them, she will share her grain pan. She is fine with other horses while in hand or under saddle. She came back here in February (the lady that we had placed her with 4 years ago had some health issues and couldn't keep her). She is an easy keeper, has fantastic feet, looks like a mini fresian with all of her hair and will make someone who knows gaited horses and mares a fantastic trail horse. I love riding her. She is so easy. She trailers, round pens, longes and knows all of the Clinton Anderson respect moves on the ground. She flexes nicely and stands quietly for mounting. She can be ridden in a saddle or bareback. I ride her in a rope halter or a jaquima on the road and trail. She is just being transitioned in to a Brenda imus gaited bit and is doing well. She has a nice neck rein and moves off you leg. Has a good whoa. She is great with dogs, fireworks, shooting, kids (ponies kids on her great), anyone can ride her following, but she wants you to be her partner when riding alone or leading. An intermediate confident would be fine. She just likes clear signals. Great with water, bridges, tarps, bears, elk, and traffic. She is very bold on the trail and not spooky at all. Not herd bound. Please serious inquiries only. I am not interested in someone who is just going to resell her. She is a great mare. She does not cycle hard. This is a fantastic horse for an educated horseman. No beginners or people without Gaited horse experience please. We want a home that will be able to get the true value from her and give her the partner she deserves. A trail home/camping/packing/extreme trail/trail challenge type home is what we are looking for. Fine to ride in the pasture also. clips, bathes, cross ties, ties, great for farrier. (Less)

Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Gelded, Abused/Neglected

Chevy is the most loving, gentle horse. He is a national show horse, 1/2 arab 1/2 saddlebred. He is a rescue horse. He has lymphangitis in his back leg, that I can no longer afford to treat. If someone had the time and money to have it properly drained and treated, they would have the best equine friend ever! Chevy is so gentle my 7 year old son can be out with him all the time and ride him, he lives with a mini pony mare. Chevy still walks well even with the swelling. Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lola is a beautiful, chestnut Paso Fino. She has a fun, spunky personality and would thrive in a forever home. She has a cute white star on her forehead and a gorgeous red mane. Lola was rescued in early 2012 from a feedlot in Washington State where she was bound for slaughter. She ended up in a feedlot despite being the daughter of a famous Paso Fino stallion named Capuchino. She also has an impressive-sounding registered name - Flying M Orquesta! Her interesting past shines through her friendly, spirited personality that is sure to delight anyone who meets her. Lola is friendly and personable. She's approximately 18 years old and stands ... (Read More)about 14.2 hands high. Lola is particular about her hind legs and currently takes FlexMax for hoof health. She would do best as a pasture pal and would certainly be a beautiful sight on any pasture. Before she came to us she had been ridden western and bareback in the mountains as a trail horse by previous owners. That adventurous spirit is still within her. Rescue Me ID: 14-06-04-00246Summer (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: EPM

Summer is a well-mannered, incredibly smart horse. She is a bay-colored thoroughbred who was raced a few times when she was three-years-old. She was rescued from extreme neglect where she was literally starving to death. With the love and care of the Pasado's staff, she has completely recovered into a handsome, healthy horse. Summer would do well with other horses and animals that can handle her dominant personality - she is not aggressive but she sure does like to be the center of attention! Submissive horses or horses that can match her dominant energy would be best. She was diagnosed with Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) which ... (Read More)is a parasite that can affect the central nervous system. EPM can cause episodes of fright and skittishness. She is currently on medicine for EPM and recent tests show that she is improving - she may be episode-free very soon as long as she continues with treatment. Summer is very smart and would be fantastic for riding and jumping once she is no longer affected by EPM. Not only would she make a great event horse, she's a beauty as well! At 11-years-old she has plenty more years of love and commitment to give and her potential is limitless. Summer is ready to start her new life! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-04-00244Annie (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Annie is 100% kind. She lives to please and wants nothing more than a compassionate, patient owner. She is a stunning, 15 hands-high Tennessee Walker cross with a beautiful black and white painted coat. Her sweet personality warms the hearts of those around her. Annie is very calm around other horses and can be housed with horses of almost any personality. Annie was abandoned before she came to Pasado's and while we don't know everything about her history there is evidence that she was abused. She can be very nervous and easily spooked around people and will need a patient, kind owner to show her that she is safe. She has made vast ... (Read More)improvements in her behavior since arriving at Pasado's and has had some evidence of being trained. Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Chester may be that pony that every child seems to want. He's small, adorable, and has the prettiest coloring - a chocolate coat with a vanilla mane and tail. Chester is 20 years old, but he does a pretty good job pretending he is still a young, spunky pony. He is blind but gets around fine and is particularly good at finding the perfect spot to roll around in the pasture. Chester was rescued from a home affected by domestic abuse. His owner's husband hurt Chester and beat him, causing his blindness. Chester was thankfully rescued from that situation and finally found peace at Pasado's Safe Haven. Today he is a happy, healthy goofball ... (Read More)who loves to be groomed and fawned over. He especially likes getting his beautiful mane braided. He gets along well with gentle horses and he does just fine with llamas, goats, donkeys, and sheep. This cutie is ready to find his forever home. Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Peach Pie has the sweetest personality - he's quiet, sensitive, and loves to have someone shower him with gentle, caring attention. He is a light Palomino gelding and stands about 12.1 hands high. He does get nervous sometimes due to his blindness, which can make new things challenging for him at first. Once he gets accustomed to his surroundings, he is an absolute sweetheart who just wants some individual attention and kindness. Peach Pie would do well with other horses and animals that are patient and gentle. He would also do well around calm children. He does have Cushing's disease, so he eats a low-sugar diet of soaked and rinsed ... (Read More)Timothy hay and absolutely loves getting iceberg lettuce and romaine lettuce as a treat. Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Omi is a stunning dark bay Thoroughbred mare. Omi is well-trained and calm and is looking for a peaceful pasture to relax in. Omi used to be an athlete - she was poetry in motion on the racetrack. After her racing days, she was used to produce foals for her owner for 15 years. When Omi was unable to race or produce foals anymore, her owner began to neglect her and was opting to euthanize her. Omi thankfully escaped her fate and found her way to Pasado's Safe Haven. Despite her tough past, she is an obedient, friendly mare. She has a kind heart and will do well with other horses that are either calm or a similar age. Omi does have ... (Read More)stringhalt which causes an involuntary reflex in her hind-legs in which she jerks them up. She does very well with hoof-trimmings and grooming and any hind-leg movement is unintentional on her part. She would do best as a pasture pal and her dark, gorgeous coat would add a regal aura to any field. Omi is friendly, well-behaved, and beautiful and she is ready to live peacefully at her new forever home. This sweet, kind girl can't wait to find her retirement home. Rescue Me ID: 14-01-05-00087Molly (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

'Molly' Grade Quarter Horse Mare 4 yrs old 14.2hh Adoption Fee: $400 Molly came in as an under-nourished foal with her mother and twin brother. She is the smaller of the two and has a liver condition which is easily maintained with a low protein diet. Molly's mother was a Quarter horse cross, and had a lot of get up and go with a very willing, quick learning attitude. Molly is almost exactly the same! It's hard to say if she inherited her mother's speed, but she definitely has that attitude. Horse    Age: Adult

'Melody' Quarter Horse Mare 8 yrs old 15hh Not Broke to Ride (Currently in Training) Adoption Fee: $600 Melody has had a rough past but has really been coming along well with her ground work. She halters and leads nicely and is patient as the day is long when getting her feet trimmed. We've started training her using the 'Fundamentals' training program and are in the early stages of groundwork with her. We've also begun to work on desensitizing her to anything and everything she shows an aversion too and she's been doing wonderfully with those lessons as well. She stands tied, is up-to-date on worming and hoof trims, respects fences, ... (Read More)and does great with other horses. Melody is an easy keeper, and winters wonderfully without a blanket. At this point, Melody would make a wonderful horse for someone wanting to continue her training. She really looks to her trainers for guidance and gives an earnest trust and bond to those who have confidence to show her the ropes. Melody is currently located in Spokane for training, if you'd like to meet her, please give us a call. Horse    Age: Senior

Jelly Bean 24 yrs old Quarter Horse Mare 15.2hh Fully broke/ Barrel (BR) Adoption Fee $600 (BR) Jelly Bean came into us after being abandoned. She's broke and knows barrel pattern, although at her age she doesn't have the speed she used to. She's stocky enough for just about any sized rider to take her out, but needs someone to be firm and in control. (BR) Since coming into the rescue we have found she halters, leads, trailers, stands for the farrier, grooms, bathes, tacks up, leads, lunges (even with a 10 year old doing it), and rides out. She has some slight sensitivity to a lunge whip but a little desensitization should take care of ... (Read More)that in no time. (Less)

Horse    Age: Senior

Health: Vaccinations Current

'Buddy' 26 yr old Quarter Horse Gelding 15hh Adoption Fee: $600 Buddy is an ex reining horse and remembers all his buttons, bells, whistles. He does great on the lead line with kids on his back, but when not on a lead line will need an experienced rider because of his reining cues (he has a great spinning cue!). Because of his age, he just doesn't have the stamina he used to. Buddy's does have a couple down falls; he's had food aggression issues we've been able to work around by putting his hay pile out first before feeding the rest of the herd. We also suspect he may have some night blindness. Despite those down falls, he really ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Washington
Horses can make good pets in Washington if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.

Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
