Rescue Me ID: 14-12-17-00412Help

Horse    Age: Adult

On behalf of The Nourishing Hand Animal Rescue, I would like to ask you for your help of hay or monetary funds to purchase hay. Your financial support helps us continue our mission to educate animal owners and/or rescue animals in need. The generous support of individuals like you makes it possible for The Nourishing Hand Animal Rescue to exist and to make the community a great place to live. My husband is a Disabled Vet and at times we have to depend on his check to make it work to feed the horses. At this time we are feeding 20 horses, 2 cows, hay, and our hay and fund supply has run out. We feed 4 ton a month and have ran out.We also ... (Read More)have 9 turkeys as we take all animals, and Wal-Mart donates for everything but the hay for the horses and cattle. All our other donations went to help the fire victims, so when we asked them for help for the rescue we were denied, as they said it was us or the victims. And no we never got any donations of funds from the Carlton Complex Fire. You need to know we do not go out looking for these animals, they are brought to us by the Sheriff's Department or by others like this year who was effected by the Carlton Complex Fire and had no where else to take them. We have been helping our community since 2010. We also have the pet food bank for Okanogan County, and have helped many people feed their dogs and cats. But we need hay to keep going with the animals we have now or we may have to go against everything we stand for and have them put down rather than starve. So if you can find it in your hearts to help, You can donate to The Nourishing Hand at P.O. Box 2106 Oroville, Wa. 98844. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-09-11-00675Spirit and Piccolo (male)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

These beautiful boys are needing a new loving home. We have enjoyed having them, but activities have increased and the kids don't have enough time in the day to spend with these guys. Spirit is the blond mini/pony. He is about 9 years old and has potential to be ridden (maybe even be a cart pony). My daughter and her friends have saddled him many times and ridden with a lead, but they have not bridled him. He is patient with them, but lets them know when he is done by giving gentle hops. Piccolo, the black and white mini, is about 14 years old. He loves attention, but can show his pony attitude at times when you are trying to catch ... (Read More)him. He is not interested in being ridden at all, but is a fun companion. They are very food driven so they will do best on a dry pasture so they don't eat themselves silly. Piccolo has a sugar sensitivity so if he eats spring grass, he throws a lot of heel (back of his hooves grow fast). Our farrier is wonderful and has corrected their feet in the year and a half we have had them. They will come with their beautiful new halters and lead ropes. We will miss these boys, but hope they will bring joy to the next family. We would like them to go together. We don't have a horse trailer so we cannot deliver. We have 2 little saddles available to buy also. One is missing the belly strap. We have little two bridles also for sale. We also have 2 brand new small grazing halters that we never even tried on them. (Less)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lola is a beautiful, chestnut Paso Fino. She has a fun, spunky personality and would thrive in a forever home. She has a cute white star on her forehead and a gorgeous red mane. Lola was rescued in early 2012 from a feedlot in Washington State where she was bound for slaughter. She ended up in a feedlot despite being the daughter of a famous Paso Fino stallion named Capuchino. She also has an impressive-sounding registered name - Flying M Orquesta! Her interesting past shines through her friendly, spirited personality that is sure to delight anyone who meets her. Lola is friendly and personable. She's approximately 18 years old and stands ... (Read More)about 14.2 hands high. Lola is particular about her hind legs and currently takes FlexMax for hoof health. She would do best as a pasture pal and would certainly be a beautiful sight on any pasture. Before she came to us she had been ridden western and bareback in the mountains as a trail horse by previous owners. That adventurous spirit is still within her. Can you give this fascinating beauty the home she deserves? (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-04-00246Summer (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: EPM

Summer is a well-mannered, incredibly smart horse. She is a bay-colored thoroughbred who was raced a few times when she was three-years-old. She was rescued from extreme neglect where she was literally starving to death. With the love and care of the Pasado's staff, she has completely recovered into a handsome, healthy horse. Summer would do well with other horses and animals that can handle her dominant personality - she is not aggressive but she sure does like to be the center of attention! Submissive horses or horses that can match her dominant energy would be best. She was diagnosed with Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) which ... (Read More)is a parasite that can affect the central nervous system. EPM can cause episodes of fright and skittishness. She is currently on medicine for EPM and recent tests show that she is improving - she may be episode-free very soon as long as she continues with treatment. Summer is very smart and would be fantastic for riding and jumping once she is no longer affected by EPM. Not only would she make a great event horse, she's a beauty as well! At 11-years-old she has plenty more years of love and commitment to give and her potential is limitless. Summer is ready to start her new life! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-04-00244Annie (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Annie is 100% kind. She lives to please and wants nothing more than a compassionate, patient owner. She is a stunning, 15 hands-high Tennessee Walker cross with a beautiful black and white painted coat. Her sweet personality warms the hearts of those around her. Annie is very calm around other horses and can be housed with horses of almost any personality. Annie was abandoned before she came to Pasado's and while we don't know everything about her history there is evidence that she was abused. She can be very nervous and easily spooked around people and will need a patient, kind owner to show her that she is safe. She has made vast ... (Read More)improvements in her behavior since arriving at Pasado's and has had some evidence of being trained. It is clear that she is eager to feel calm around people again and she may be ready to ride one day. Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Peach Pie has the sweetest personality - he's quiet, sensitive, and loves to have someone shower him with gentle, caring attention. He is a light Palomino gelding and stands about 12.1 hands high. He does get nervous sometimes due to his blindness, which can make new things challenging for him at first. Once he gets accustomed to his surroundings, he is an absolute sweetheart who just wants some individual attention and kindness. Peach Pie would do well with other horses and animals that are patient and gentle. He would also do well around calm children. He does have Cushing's disease, so he eats a low-sugar diet of soaked and rinsed ... (Read More)Timothy hay and absolutely loves getting iceberg lettuce and romaine lettuce as a treat. This adoring boy is an older pony at about 27 years old and will bring a calm, peaceful energy to any pasture. Can you give Peach Pie the forever home he deserves? (Less)

Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Omi is a stunning dark bay Thoroughbred mare. Omi is well-trained and calm and is looking for a peaceful pasture to relax in. Omi used to be an athlete - she was poetry in motion on the racetrack. After her racing days, she was used to produce foals for her owner for 15 years. When Omi was unable to race or produce foals anymore, her owner began to neglect her and was opting to euthanize her. Omi thankfully escaped her fate and found her way to Pasado's Safe Haven. Despite her tough past, she is an obedient, friendly mare. She has a kind heart and will do well with other horses that are either calm or a similar age. Omi does have ... (Read More)stringhalt which causes an involuntary reflex in her hind-legs in which she jerks them up. She does very well with hoof-trimmings and grooming and any hind-leg movement is unintentional on her part. She would do best as a pasture pal and her dark, gorgeous coat would add a regal aura to any field. Omi is friendly, well-behaved, and beautiful and she is ready to live peacefully at her new forever home. This sweet, kind girl can't wait to find her retirement home. Does Omi sound like the horse for you? (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Washington
Horses can make good pets in Washington if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.

Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
