Rescue Me ID: 16-09-10-00064Ms. Chance (female)
She's a quarter horse. She's 19 years old. I've had her since she was born. I'm elderly and unable to continue caring for her, especially with my health. She's a little spoiled. I have ridden her, but it's been years. She used to let me lift her feet, but I haven't tried in years due to my health. I have had mean neighbors who threw rocks at her, and this made her a little skittish. I've called the police on them, but they wouldn't do anything. She's registered. If she gets loose all I have to do is call her. I've always been very quiet and non-aggressive with her. She came from a broodmare that was very high spirited. She takes after her mother. She was wormed last fall and in March. She has a star on her forehead. She has white markings on her rear hooves. She would respond well to someone who knows horses and is firm but not mean. She was born August 12, 1997 at 8am. Right now her best buddy is a mule. She would probably enjoy having another horse around. You will have to pick her up. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-06-00611Jake and Flame (male)
Jake and Flame need a new home immediately as their owner's home is in foreclosure. They have been together their entire lives and would like to keep them together. Jake is the appy. He is about 23 years old and has moon blindness in his right eye. He can be difficult to catch, but once you catch him, he's a prefect trail rider. Flame is a 27 year old Morgan but he acts 15. He doesn't get ridden much and therefore he's spunky when you first get on him. However, he's very well trained, knows all his leg aids, friendly, great around kids, trails, etc. I'm really going to miss these guys but I have no place to keep them as I am caring for my elderly mom now, and their owner just had a stroke and is losing her home. |Rescue Me ID: 16-08-05-00671Poco (male)|
Sweet old boy about 30, needs tlc, good muscle tone and energy. Good with some horses not with others, depends on the horses. Not good with dogs. Was trail broke and used even as a kids lesson horse but it's been quite a few years, he would need gentle refreshing and probably mostly light riding, has been a good pasture pet. Our financial situation is a bit unstable or we would not recommend him.

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-08-00402May May (female)
May is 90/40 blind. She can see fairly well on the right as long as she isn't sun blind. She is in good health. She is good on the ground, has good manners, but has not been started. She does accept weight, and has been ridden bare back a few times. She would make a great brood mare. She needs an experienced handler with time and patience. She is not an easy loader, only been trailered twice. She eats grain once a day, and four flakes of orchard twice a day, with treats here and there. I am having her hooves trimmed next week. Comes with two blankets, halter and lead, and grooming supplies. NO barbedwire or electric fencing.

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-17-00562Magic (male)
Magic has the personality of a puppy, eager to please and willing to follow you to the ends of the earth. He would be perfect for a family with children of any age. Magic would shine as a family pet, companion horse or as an unmounted therapy horse. Can you open your family to this sweet boy? Magic is 28-year old, 15hh, Quarter Horse gelding. He is very handsome with a gorgeous black coat, blaze and socks. Magic is not suitable for riding due to ringbone in both front feet. He does need some basic maintenance to keep him comfortable, glue-on shoes and monthly injections of a joint supplement (in the muscle) however he does not act like an old horse. He has been a total gentleman with all horses and ponies he has been turned out with. All who work with Magic find him delightful and he is a true favorite among volunteers and interns. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-04-00248Lola (female)
Lola is a Liver Chestnut Paso Fino mare. She is registered and has papers. She's 18, but certainly doesn't act like it. She likes attention and is always easy to catch. She can be fussy about picking up her hind feed but has gotten a lot better. Lola is rather fine-boned and small at 14 hands, but she has a big personality! Lola was ridden extensively as a trail and mountain horse but has not been ridden in many years due to her arthritic changes, extensive riding may not be in her best interest. She can be a sassy girl with a lot of spunk and should have a confident handler as she will take advantage of a timid beginner. Lola is not overly dominant with other horses and would make a good companion horse. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-04-00246Summer (female)
Summer is a 12-year old, 16.2hh, Thoroughbred mare looking for a home with a calm equine companion(s) as well as a horse experienced human family. She was raced as a filly but later fell into neglectful circumstances. When Pasado's Safe Haven rescued Summer she was severely emaciated, but she has made a complete recovery and is a beautiful mare. While she has some physical challenges would make riding difficult for her, she is smart, active and still loves to have a 'job'. Summer has been a wonderful therapy horse as part of an Equine Facilitated Learning program (this is an unmounted program). She is people-oriented and has a kind, calming energy. Summer will need an owner who is experienced in caring for horses and able to manage her special needs. In 2013 she was diagnosed with EPM (Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis), which can cause neurologic symptoms. She improved with treatment but has not cleared the protozoa and relapses when off her medication. She has been mostly symptom free for some time but she should stay on medication long term to prevent a relapse. Summer's front legs have poor conformation and so her right front knee has slowly broken down and become more bowed over time. This has caused arthritis in her knee as well as difficulty locking her knee to sleep standing up. She wears a supportive knee brace at night to help slow the progression of the condition and aid in her ability to sleep while standing up. She also wears protective boots over her fetlocks to prevent sores from falling to her knees at times when she sleeps. Her activity level needs to be minimized because of this condition (she is not a riding horse) and she should remain on supportive joint supplements but turn out is essential for her emotional well-being. She will need one or more mellow pasture buddies where she has a place to be separated for feeding time at night. She has been pastured with horses much older than her and was very kind and respectful to them. She enjoys attention and would love to have her own person to bond with over ground work, liberty training, trick training or just snuggle time. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Washington
Horses can make good pets in Washington if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.
Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
