Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Very Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current, Blind, Heaves

Brock is a big dog in a horses body...loves to jump in the trailer and go for a ride. He was a trail horse, a lesson horse and an equine assisted therapy horse. He has a heart murmur and CANNOT BE RIDDEN. He is also slightly blind and has to have his eye washed daily, and wears a fly mask. He gets his eyes cleaned (through his nose) by the vet but I haven't done it this quarter due to finances. He knows his name and comes when called and is never a problem. He is 28 yrs old and probably the last remaining of his generation of his fathers bloodline, The Old man, famous QH race horses. Divorce is causing me to place him. He does need grain in ... Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current

Lady is a pet. She is NOT ride-able due to an old injury. She is in absolutely no danger and I will keep her until I find the right home for her. She needs to be a pet to someone that wants a nice horse to brush and play with. She is well behaved and has no other health issues. She's good with children, stands for vet and farrier etc. She will not be given to anyone planning to breed, ride or sell her. She will not have her papers with her although she is APHA registered. Rescue Me ID: 15-05-14-00568Rosco (male)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs Vaccinations

Rosco is a 14 yr old gelding. Even though he is registered and papered as a quarter horse there is more thoroughbred in him. This requires more maintenance. Has been a sweet horse and has ridden in parades, pleasure rides and rodeo grand entrees. He has done both western and english riding. Unfortunately, he has become to expensive for us to keep. Three weeks ago he hurt his knee and he needs attention and an environment we can not provide for him. We don't own our own land and are relying on others to house him. He needs someone who can bettter care for him despite my daughters heartbreak over it. I hope we can find him a loving home that ... (Read More)can meet his needs. (Less)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

17 year old rat tail appaloosa. She was barrel horse from the age of 6 to 15 years of age. Because of that she is a very hot horse. I have had her semi retired through out the past two years. She will sometimes run here and there but she can't handle running like that anymore. She was a 2d/3d horse when she did run. She can be ridden lightly but needs an experience rider with patience. I would prefer her to be sold as a pasture buddy with a forever home or as a brood mare. I don't ride her anymore really and because I'm always on the road racing I feel horrible leaving her behind. She will go to an approved home only. She is shod, up to date ... (Read More)on shots and teeth, and has a coggins test. She is not being SOLD as a NON RIDEABLE horse so please do not ask me if she can be ridden lightly or a kid put on her. Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current

Sara is a very beautiful 12.2 hds Hackney mare whom we rescued about 8 years ago. She had been ground trained for driving but was never finished. She is not suitable as a riding pony for children. Sara is living with ponies, llamas, sheep and horses loose on a ranch. She is not aggressive and gets along fine with everybody if given her space. She is friendly but is a typical Hackney so she can be high strung at times. She is a very easy keeper on grass and hay and gets along well with other ponies. Likes to be groomed and is OK with having her feet picked up. We are trying to find her a home as we are starting a therapy program with our ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Texas
Horses can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.

Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
