Rescue Me ID: 16-12-19-00305Baron (male)

Horse    Age: Adult

Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Gelded, Needs Vaccinations, Abused/Neglected

Baron is a recent rescue horse. I got him for a companion for my other gelding, but he got aggressive towards my Arabian at feeding time. Other then that, he is great around people. He has been ridden walk trot, and we are working more with him on that, plus lounging.

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-14-00350Miracle (female)

Horse    Age: Senior

I am so very thankful for volunteers who are willing to spend time and share their love with our 21 year old foster horse. Brushing her and desensitizing her are her biggest needs right now so she can build trust. The neglect that she endured, no animal should have to experience. Starved, no maintenance care, and obviously trained with a heavy hand. We would say her name, 'Blaze', and she would drop her head and put her nose to the ground, she was so sad. It broke my heart as I looked at my happy, healthy, loved horses who have been with me for the past 25 years and so often the rocks and therapy I needed to get through the hard times. Now ... (Read More)I have the opportunity to return the favor to a horse whose hard times are behind her. She needed a new name for her new life; 'Miracle' seemed appropriate. The farrier came and trimmed Miracle's hooves, revealing several painful bruises and abscesses. Thankfully she is on the road to recovery and already has a better, more comfortable step. Dr. Michelle, from Large Animal Veterinary Services, examined and vaccinated Miracle. She injured her back leg at some point in the last few months but it is slowly healing and Dr. Michelle doesn't forsee her being lame once healed. Now that Miracle is eating a proper diet consistently, her body should heal faster. She is already gaining weight. She is on the smaller side for a quarter horse and once she is back to a proper body weight and health we will saddle her up and see how she does with a rider on her back. Right now Miracle prefers women to men, but we are working on this daily and she is improving. Miracle is available for adoption through Love Mutts Rescue. Go to lovemuttsrescue.org to fill out an application and then come to the farm to meet Miracle. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-16-00325Dixie (female)

Horse    Age: Filly

Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current

She's 3 years old, 17 hands. She's an appy/quarter horse. She is ground broke but not broke to ride. She needs to be finished. She's a sweetheart. I rescued her at 4 months old. She's young and ready to learn anything you want her to. Deer keep running through my electric fence and shorting it out, which causes my horses to get out. I don't want them to get hurt. I don't have a pasture and don't ride anymore. I just want them to have good homes.

She's in her 20's. She is broke to ride but hasn't been ridden in a while. She's a quarter house. She's healthy, no issues. She thinks she's the boss. She'll trailer and groom. The deer run through my electric wire and short it out, and my horses are getting out. I don't want them to get hurt. PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in North Carolina
Horses can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.

Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
