|Rescue Me ID: 15-01-01-00094Hope (female)|
Hope as we have named her, is currently in the hands of legal authorities after being seized from a severe case of neglect and abuse in eastern Montana. We are working with the Humane Society in Montana and the county attorney to find a home where Hope's rehabilitation can be continued. She is only four years old and MAY be pregnant. She is being treated for a mouth infection with antibiotics. She is wary of men (sorry guys) as her abuser was a man. She will tolerate being touched but currently is not comfortable with this. She will need an adopter with time, patience and great understanding of the needs of a badly neglected and abused animal. We require an adoption application with good references but will do our best to move the process forward quickly if you can provide the right home. We believe that Hope will one day be the beautiful horse she was meant to be but has never had a chance to become. There is 'hope.' She will be taken to a veterinarian this coming week for a full workup to determine any health conditions, if she is pregnant, etc. (Less)

|PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Montana|
Horses can make good pets in Montana if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.
Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
