Rescue Me ID: 15-07-29-00537Bella (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current

Bella is adoptable as a Pasture Pal only! She suffers from DSLD, which is being managed with regular trims and attention of a hoof care specialist. The specialist is actually developing a pair of 'magic boots' to help Bella get around well - she'll be able to wear these boots over a regular pasture trim. She also requires a carefully managed diet, to keep the weight off of her affected limbs (both hind legs). She is very dominant and sassy with humans - don't be fooled by the DSLD, she can and will drag you anywhere she pleases! We love her sass though - she was rescued from New Holland, heavily pregnant with Zander. When first rescued, she ... (Read More)was very untrusting, but she's come to enjoy and seek out human company - especially if she thinks she can con treats out of you! She does enjoy the attention though - she is beautiful and her long mane and tail need regular brushing to keep untangled. Bella should not live in an active, aggressive herd, because she cannot physically defend herself. She gets along well in the 'pasture pals' herd at GO, and would do well with a handful of chill companions who aren't likely to pick on her. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-07-29-00532Zander (male)

Horse    Age: Colt

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Zander was born after his mother, Bella, was rescued from New Holland. He's now 3 years old and more than ready to start training in earnest. A Halflinger gelding, Zander is very much in your pocket and seeks out human attention. He has a lot to learn but is willing and very clever - he is a creative problem solver! You laugh that we describe a horse like that, but he truly is! He will make someone a fabulous partner. He gets along with other horses but isn't particularly dominant, just persistent.

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Rusty is adoptable as a Pasture Pal only! He suffers from navicular disease, which is being managed through regular therapeutic trims from a highly qualified specialist. Medications also help him feel better. He is friendly with humans, and seeks out attention - he loves to get grooms, as well as bathed and sprayed, whether it's water or fly spray! Rusty and Chief Joe get along well sharing the 'top' of the little herd of pasture pals. Rusty, like Joe, would not do well in an aggressive herd due to his physical limitations.

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Saint is a Morgan gelding transferred to GO through Morgan SafeNet. While he has had a lot of time to decompress and remember how to be a horse, his re-training process has just begun. He is uncertain of people and thus requires cautious handling. Outside of situations where he knows something is 'expected', he is curious and friendly, seeking attention from humans. During his most recent training session, he was a very good boy for his handlers and demonstrated he has had past ground work training. As his training progresses, which will eventually include riding, his adoption fee will go up accordingly.

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

Rambo & Rod are nearly identical brother Halflinger geldings (15hh) which must be adopted together. After rescue, they had extensive rehabilitation time learning to trust people again, they are ready for a forever home and the next step in training. As former Amish horses, it is likely that they were trained in driving and possibly riding prior to their rescue; at GO they have received some evaluation and training which indicates this. Both geldings are friendly and in your pocket once they 'know' you, but they are currently elusive with most strangers and visitors to the farm. With patience and quiet movement, they are not difficult to ... (Read More)catch and they have good ground manners once caught. Both geldings tend to hang out with the herd of minis and ponies and are not particularly dominant. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-07-29-00446Scarlett (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current

Scarlett is a 15.2 hand Appendix-type mare. Solid bay, she was rescued from New Holland and has recently begun riding training at GO. We suspect she has had prior training - her evaluation went swimmingly and we believe she is going to show us that she is a been there, done that sort of mare. As her training continues, her adoption fee will go up accordingly.

Horse    Age: Yearling

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current

Imp (40 in) was just a baby when rescued from New Holland. He has grown up into a friendly opportunist- he enjoys and seeks out human company, and gets along well with the herd - not submissive but not dominant either. He's quite large for a mini, so we suspect one of his parents was a pony. We think he'd make a cute 'team' for cart driving with Finn, another rescued in the same herd of minis and ponies. When full grown, he should be large enough for children to ride.

Horse    Age: Yearling

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current

Finn (40 in) was only a couple days old when he, his mother, and a group of fellow ponies and minis were rescued from New Holland. He has grown up to be a friendly, feisty colt who gets along with the herd although is not the most social of them. He is not 100% mini - his sire may have been but his mother is a small pony. When full grown, he may be large enough for children to ride. We kind of picture Finn and Imp, another colt from his group, as making a cute 'team' for cart driving.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Missouri
Horses can make good pets in Missouri if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.

Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
