Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Franklin is a gorgeous boy with a ton of character and personality. He is a 17ish hand Hanoverian/Belgian cross, and 13 years old. Unfortunately, Franklin has not been able to be ridden since he was a five year old. He has a problem between his hip and spine, making him chronically and signficantly lame under saddle. I have never seen him in any discomfort when not being ridden. He is a happy healthy guy with fantastic feet, living the good life, being boarded in a large pasture with some buddies. Franklin is seeking a forever home where he can continue to live the easy life, but can perhaps be a pasture friend or simply a pet to a ... (Read More)horse lover. (Less)

BSER Avoca, Pryor Mountain Mustang mare, 15 h. DOB 4-1-2003. Avoca was born with sight but soon developed bi-lateral cataracts. Now Avoca has limited sight. She gets around fine at the rescue and volunteers regularly enjoy a ride on her. Avoca will never be a trail horse. She can only be ridden in very familiar surroundings. She does go w/t/c/b, those are her gates. She needs to be ridden with caution. She is a strong, special horse that deserves a good home that understands her limitations. Are you the special someone Avoca is looking for?

PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Massachusetts
Horses can make good pets in Massachusetts if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.

Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
