Animal ID: 5Peanut (male)

Horse    Age: Adult

Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Fearful/Anxious

Pepper (gray) 2011 Quarab Mare and Peanut (chestnut) 2010 Arabian Gelding have been together for at least the past two years, probably longer considering the bond they have. They have basic ground training but nothing further. Both have been abused in the past and came to us malnourished. Peanut was gelded on 23 Mar 15 so very much still has the stallion behaviors, but don't let them fool you, Pepper is more dominant. Both have grown since they've been here so they're not done yet.

Animal ID: 4Fancy Feet (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Fancy Feet is 15 hands and still growing. She was orphaned as a foal but has recovered beautifully. Fancy did not meet any other horses until she arrived at Second Chances in Nov 2014 so has some behavioral issues that are being worked out. She was very much one of the dogs at her previous home and fully behaves like one. She needs to be part of a herd-even if it's only of two. Fancy has been ridden bareback and has had a saddle on her, just not rider and saddle at the same time. She needs a confident rider who will be able to complete her training with both a stern and gentle hand. The electric fencing at the Rescue do not faze this ... (Read More)girl at all so luckily she is happy where she is because she can also jump the 47 in fence with no problems. (Less)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current

Scarlett was actually rescued July 2014. her owner scould no longer afford to care for her. I am not a rider but I took her in and board her. She is ready for a forever home. I don't want her to ever go to slaughter. Submissive, no kick no bite, loads, riden in ring and some on trail. She is actually a Tennessee walker without papers. NOT GAITED. Fastest pace is walk and trot just like a walking horse. Safe for any level rider. GREAT home a must! she doesn't drink water from a bucket. Cannot just be Pasteur boarded needs feed daily.

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-23-00249Willow (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Laminitis, Thrush

I am looking for someone to take my horse. She is a 17 year old Morgan and has a horrible case of white line disease. Willow's disease is completely treatable, however, it will be a long process (at least a year). Unfortunately, I do not have the time nor the funds to take care of Willow's needs anymore. She has been part of our family for at least seven years and she is the sweetest, most loving horse I have ever known. Willow is great with kids, she loves my 4 year old daughter, and bends down to give her nuzzles. I hate to see Willow go, but I have to put her needs before my selfish wants. Willow needs to be in a facility, or with a ... (Read More)family that can give her the extra love and attention that she requires right now. As of now, the foot is not causing Willow any pain and is completely reversible. As time goes on, this will not be the case, her foot will cause her much pain, she will fonder, and eventually have to be euthanized to release her from her pain. Please, help my find Willow a home that will be able to treat her before it is too late. I hate to even think about the pain she will endure if she can't get the help she needs. If you or anyone you know can help save my sweet Willow, please send me an email or call me. (Less)

Animal ID: 1Shady (male)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Gelded

Shady is a 15.2h 10 yr old TWH/QH that arrived in January 2014 underweight, mistrustful, and still a stallion. As soon as he put enough weight to withstand the surgery and recovery he was scheduled for castration on 6 Feb. He does not yet comprehend that he's a gelding so is very protective of our mares. Shady has been abused in the past and has some scarring - I believe to be superficial - but requires an advanced rider because he will need to have a trusting bond and a gentle but assertive hand. Shady is gaited at free movement and has a lot of speed. He is current on all vaccinations, and farrier. He will make the right individual a ... (Read More)great companion. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Georgia
Horses can make good pets in Georgia if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.

Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
