Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Very Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Vaccinations Current, Founder

13 Year old registered AQHA Chestnut Mare. She has sadly foundered this winter in pasture and we cannot giver her the care and attention that she deserves. She is the sweetest, most loving and loyal horse on the face of the planet. She is absolutely stunning and beautiful. She has special shoes on to help to relieve the pain that she is in. She sadly can never be rode again unless she has corrective surgery which we cannot afford. And that is of course the surgery is successful. I cannot stress how much we love her. She has done so much for us and and I want to return the favor and try and find the home that she deserves. Again I can't ... (Read More)stress enough that she is only a companion at this point and cannot be rode by anybody. She has a hard enough time standing. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-04-00046Rusty (male)

Horse    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Gelded, Vaccinations Current

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Rusty is 29, but still a spunky guy. He loves people and is usually the favorite in any group. I have had him since he was 10. He is currently in Southeastern Utah, near Moab, at the Lasal Creek Ranch, where my best friend was forced to board him when I went to prison. I now live in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and since I've been out of prison, have run up against so many issues, I can no longer pay for his care. I owe the ranch $1200, and they are now threatening to put him down if I don't either pay or come remove him. I have no other options, or another place to take Rusty. I realize it will mean my giving up ownership of Rusty, and I ... (Read More)am able to contribute at least $50 per month to any horse rescue organization that can offer him a happy home. He is such a great horse, a dream come true for me, and I just want to make sure he lives out his days in peace, safety and comfort. Can you PLEASE help me....I don't have much time left till they take some kind of action. Thank you. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-27-00441Cimmaron (male)

Horse    Age: Yearling

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Needs Vaccinations, Arthritis

Cimmaron is a chestnut color and a solid paint. I don't have a recent picture. He is 2 years old, (in this pic, he is 5 months). His left foot is turned under pretty bad, making him limp all the time. He's at the point, that he needs to be gelded. Our schedule is such, we have to downsize on animals. He won't sell with his bad foot, so he is scheduled to be donated for research at the Vet Hospital School in Ft. Collins on April 29th. We would love for him to be adopted and live out his life.

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-27-00334Bobby Star (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Horses
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Intact (Needs to be Fixed), Arthritis

Bobby Star is a beautiful red roan, registered solid paint. Her knees and ankles are crooked and sometimes cause her to limp, other times she gets around just fine. We travel a lot and need to downsize on animals. She has been ridden 3 times and did quite well, after initial resistance to trainer. Her trainer passed away in March. On March 29th, I have signed her up for research at the Vet Hospital School in Fort Collins, thinking they would work at straightening her front legs. They informed me it was for termination and then use for studying. I would love for someone to adopt her as I don't consider her sound enough to sell. I have a ... (Read More)video of her on facebook. Call me for that information. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Colorado
Horses can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.

Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
