|Rescue Me ID: 17-09-26-00184Socrates (male)|
Socrates would like a home as a companion horse to another people friendly horse. He was horribly abused and he will only go to a home as a companion. This will be a life long lease agreement as long as he is cared for and treated humanely he will stay with you. You cover all expenses. He is good with other horses needs his own geed area and not too large of a area to roam as he does play hard to get but he is fine for farrier and vet. Teeth floated late last year, wormed, feet trimmed. Contract, background check, home check references are needed $50 dollars to cover background check, home check and follow up checks.

|Rescue Me ID: 17-04-12-00430Fancy (female)|
Hackney Pony mare - approximately 18 years old, was trained to pull pony cart when she was very young, but it was many years ago. Hackney pony breed is a very spirited breed, she has bonded with only two or three people since we got her when she was 2 years old. She has a cataract on one eye and appears she can see shadows but is dependent on her one good eye. Hackney ponies are gaited and beautiful movers, sometimes just fun to watch. Fancy may bond to someone who spent some one on one time loving on her, but the person who gets her should understand the Hackney breed. We are relocating out of state and I have to downsize my critters before we move. I really just want to find a loving, forever home where she can live out her life, fat and sassy, and preferably where she can prance around with another horse, as she is more secure with only one eye if she has a stable or pasture pal. |PIease Read Before Adopting a Horse in Colorado|
Horses can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses.
Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness. However, these animals have also been affected by hay shortages and some have sadly become victims of abuse or neglect.
