Toga was my kids' 4h mare and then she took some time off to have a mule colt. We sent her to a trainer for a refresher course and came back learning she could get away with things. My son does not have a very forceful personality and so she knows that she can just not go. I have restarted her from scratch and I would call her an immediate riders horse. She never does anything bad, but she will stop and eat or plod slowly along if you let him get away with it. She has NEVER bucked or reared or anything. I hate to sell her but we need to be able to feed the other rescue animals around here and I dont need one more horse I have to ride. Toga will only go to a great home. Riley is a just coming 2 year old bay roan filly. She has not had much handling, but we have started her on haltering, leading, feet. Still needs alot more work ..... but getting there! very sweet, very pretty 22 year old grey mare. Sound, healthy, in great shape. Well broke to ride; she has ridden complete beginners and kids, but has alot of energy and should probably be lunged or 'rode down' before putting a complete beginner on her. No buck, rear, kick, bite, etc .... She is great to trailer- loads up and backs out, good for farrier. Silver loves to work cows, and does great on trails. Just an all around good girl! 2 year old (checked by teeth)sorrel filly, who unfortunately is pregnant. She is starting to 'bag up', so suspect she will foal sometime fairly soon! Shiloh is a bit afraid and upset (understandably), but seems basically gentle and cooperative. Unknown yet if she is halterbroke or not ..... will try her out and see once she's settled for a few days. She has nice conformation and a kind eye- just emaciated right now. No soundness/health issues that i can tell @ this time. Needs a safe home to call her own before she foals!! Montezuma County cortez, CO MAP IT!

Horses can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. Horses are beautiful, romantic animals that many people love. Sadly, however, horses are being neglected, abused, and abandoned at an alarming rate. The reasons a horse would need to be rescued are quite varied. Some horse owners in the Western U.S. have lost their homes and land to foreclosure, leaving nowhere for their horses to go. These horses are sometimes abandoned in the plains and deserts, where they often die of slow exposure. Droughts, rising food and fuel prices, and other economic pressures mean that some owners can no longer afford to feed and care for their horses. Other horses are purchased by inexperienced people for sentimental reasons or as gifts for children, but their owners are unprepared for the ongoing expense and involvement of caring for the horses. Like horses, donkeys and mules (sterile hybrids of a horse and a donkey) have their own charm and usefulness.
